Greetings,
YOW! Thats not good if Disk Utility from the install disk can't fix the drive. Make sure your are using the 10.6 disk to attempt to repair the drive (unless your computer came with 10.6 in which case the disks you are using are fine).
May 21, 2020 A Mac that’s low on storage can cause occasional issues. To see how much storage you have left: Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. Go to the Storage tab. This will show a color-coded overview of how much storage you’re using (and how much of it is being taken up by different items, such as Apps, System, Messages, etc.).

Most important: Do you have a backup of your data?
If not, buy an external hard drive right now (I mean it, get in the car and start driving) and follow this article http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1553 'Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility'.
Even if the repair fails you still may be able to copy the data off.
If you can't follow this article let me know and I'll give you another route to try and get your data off (you'll still need an external drive to put the data on).
Once you've copied your data off:
Mail Quit Unexpectedly Mac
- Reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
- Reset the PRAM: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
- Boot to your 10.6 disk and attempt to repair the drive again
If it can't be repaired then you can either
- Try a different repair program
- Erase the drive: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1009.html
Best of luck to you.
